Drangsalierungen wehrloser Opfer, Folter, Mord und Totschlag kennzeichnen seinen Lebensweg wie aber auch die liebevolle Zuwendung zu Julchen Blasius und ihrem gemeinsamen variety. Während er im Linksrheinischen in der Uniform eines Jägers und zuletzt sogar als „deutscher Baron" durch Feld und Flur kam, battle er rechts des Rheins zur Tarnung als Krämer Jakob Ofenloch unterwegs. 1803 erwartete ihn in Mainz seine gerechte Strafe unter der Guillotine. Sein Leichnam wurde zu makabren elektrischen Experimenten mißbraucht.
Nach den historischen Akten des Mainzer „Criminal-Special-Tribunals", den Briefwechseln mit der Regierung in Paris, seinen drei zeitgenössischen Biographen, den Polizeiakten der Ämter und den Überlieferungen in den Gemeinden von Hunsrück, Pfalz, Rheinhessen, Taunus, Wetterau und Odenwald zusammengefaßt, ist das vorliegende Buch eine vollständig neu erarbeitete und umfassende Biographie des berüchtigten Verbrechers. Erstmals wird auch sein Leben und Wirken im Rechtsrheinischen – ganz im Unterschied zu früheren Veröffentlichungen, die nur Schinderhannes' Taten in Hunsrück und Nordpfalz beschrieben – aufgezeigt.
